Simple Beauty of a Planted Discus Aquarium

Simple Beauty of a Planted Discus Aquarium

This 375 gallon residential custom aquarium installation was completed for a client who sought the simple beauty of an open layout with discus fish and minimal aquatic plant species to detract from the overall scene. Routine aquarium maintenance was performed weekly and large water changes helped to keep the discus healthy and minimize nuisance algae growth that could easily arise from the heavier and more frequent feeding the discus require. Balancing the needs of discus fish and live aquatic plants can be a real challenge as some of the specific conditions required by one can cause problems long term for the other. One example is temperature. Discus prefer much warmer water (82F-84F), while most aquatic plants tend to do better in cooler temperatures (76F-76F).
