An Aquascape of Highlight and Shadow

An Aquascape of Highlight and Shadow

Another beautiful Nature Aquarium style live planted aquarium aquascape by Aquarium Design Group's Mike Senske. This aquascape went on to take 34th place (highest ranked U.S. entry by far) out of over 2000 entries in the prestigious 2012 ADA International Aquatic Plants Layout Contest. Here the goal was to create bright areas contrasted by dark shadow areas throughout the aquascape. This layout was designed to be a long term oriented installation, so several species of slower growing plants were attached to the driftwood. The stemmed plants species in the backgorund respond well to frequent trimming, helping to promote good presence long-term as well. The aquarium tank used is an Aqua Design Amano (ADA) 180-P, and measures 180cm x 60cm x 60cm and has a volume of around 180 gallons. This live planted aquarium installation was completed at ADG headquarters in Houston, Texas.
