A 75 gallon aquarium was used for this live planted aquarium dominated by beautiful stemmed plants. The stones used were acquired from a colleague in Japan who sent them to Aquarium Design Group one or two at a time over the course of several weeks. He would take hiking journeys to nearby streams in search of the mighty Japanese Hakkai Stone. Though he never found any Hakkai stone, he did find an abundance of this similar stone, and they remain in our collection to this day. To achieve the lush growth of stemmed plants like we see in this aquascape, frequent trimming is a must. Featherfin Rainbows (Iriatherina werneri) were chosen for their outright subtlety– they are almost even not visible in the photo.
