Absolute simplicity and a philosophy of inspiring a sense of calm form the basis of an aquascape like this classic iwagumi-style live planted aquarium. The idea is for no one design element to make too much of a statement, but rather each element should work together to form a unified scene. Even the color of the fishes was chosen to complement that of the rocks. Live aquatic plant species were limited as well but with just enough variance to provide some subtle texture. This aquascape was allowed to grow freely without any trimming of the aquaric plants until it eventually became overgrown and was started fresh with new plants around the existing rock stucture. This is a common practice for our custom installation/maintenance clients where we are able to rework the aquascape without having to completely start the aquarium over.
