Tanganyikan Slate Hardscape

Tanganyikan Slate Hardscape

One of our earliest hardscape-only aquascapes, this custom aquarium installation features smaller fishes of Lake Tanganyika. The stacked slate hardscape was done entirely by hand and proved more challenging to get perfectly linear than one might at first realize. We have since seen this design replicated by others, and it has become a popular reference for a fabricated insert– a man-made, single form type of interior aquarium decor. Aquarium Design Group has always favored the hands-on, handcrafted approach to aquascaping, though we are always flattered to see one of our designs influence others. This aquascape in particular lasted eleven years, and not a single piece of the slate from the original stack was ever moved.
