Rather than view a desktop aquarium as limiting or not to be taken seriously as an effective vessel for an effective aquascape, we choose to approach it with a clear sense of what it is and of course what it is not. The idea here is to keep it simple and create a strong visual continuity between all the elements so that the aquascape becomes as much an aesthetic/design piece as it is an appropriate setting for the fishes. This particular aquarium was successfully maintained for over a year at the end of which time the aquascape was only changed for want of doing something new. The fish did wonderfully and even reproduced (as live bearing fish like the Blue Platies will do quite easily. The offspring were moved to a separate aquarium).
